359 ΜΑΕΔΥ - ΜοίÏα ΣυντήÏησης ΑεÏοσκαφών
The crucial task of the 359 MAEDY aircraft maintenance and support, is assigned to the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMS).
The 359 MAEDY AMS includes the unit’s technical personnel and the aircrafts. The squadron’s task is not only maintenance, but also flight line operations, such as servicing the planes before take off and after landing.

A series of modifications have been made to the PZLs of 359 MAEDY and they have been carried out by the AMS:
* Modification of the wing fuel tanks to increase the fuel capacity from 415 lt to 720 lt, therefore increasing the autonomy from 2,5 to 4,5 flight hours!
* Installation of new flaps, with extended angle capability, from 15° to 30°, in order to increase the airplane’s agility.
* Another upgrade is the replacement of engine sub-systems such as hydraulics and larger oil radiator, with new ones.
* The installation of taller tailwheel in order to reduce the PZL pitch angle while landed, and brakes system improvement are two other modifications to the airplane.
* Furthermore the water drop mechanical hatch was replaced by a hydraulic one which allows a controlled water drop from 3 to 12 seconds.
* Finally a retarding foam generator with a 60 lt capacity was added in the water tank, while a portable GPS was added to the standard airplane’s navigation systems.

The maintenance of all airplanes and helicopters is carried out according to the current quality standards.
The Squadron performs maintenance operations up to depot level.
During the summer period, while the Unit redeploys to air fire fighting and air crop- dusting detachments, the demands for the AMS personnel are increased. Thus each detachment is self-reliant and manned with all the personnel required for the aircraft maintenance, greatly reducing turn-around time.
