New Aircrafts – New Patches

PhotobucketThe first four F-16 Block 52+ Advanced arrived last Friday afternoon 22 May 2009 at Araxos Air Base Greece. A simple ceremenoy took place there between the Hellenic Air Force personnel and the American pilots that brought them to Greece after a long journey. These aircrafts are a part of the total Peace Xenia IV program between the Hellenic Air Force and Lockheed Martin. At the end 20 single seated and 10 double seated F-16 Block 52+ Advanced will come to Araxos Air Base and will equip 335 Squadron. New aircrafts means new patches. Students visit 117 Combat Wing

The social sensitivity of Hellenic Air Force is known especially with children. So students of 5th and 6th grade of primary school from the city of Agrinio had the opportunity to visit 117 Combat Wing and live the dream of being near to the Hellenic Air Force pilots and personnel. This visit among others had a symbolic character since Agrinio was the birth city of Major Kostas Karathanos (killed during service in 2004) and Lieutenant Kostas Alexandrakis (killed during service in 2000).

The children and their teachers were accompanied by relatives of the late pilots. The gate of 117 Combat Wing openned and welcomed the students early in the morning. A few moments later Read more »

Monk Joseph… an “own person” for the Hellenic Air Force

A lot of people are wondering who is the priest that stars in Hellenic Air Force official videos. Opinions differ. Some even argue that it is fake just for director’s reasons. Nevertheless this person is real. He is father Joseph (called Iosif-Ιωσήφ in greek). He was born in Peloponnisos in 1958 and his “in world” name is Christos Bairaktaris. Monk Joseph lives in the hideaway of st. Menas in Holy Mountain Athos (Agion Oros-Άγιον Όρος in greek). To learn more about Mount Athos click here.

The rise for this article are the videos that overflow youtube and other similar web-sites like the following:

But who is that monk actually will someone wonder? Read more »
