Students visit 117 Combat Wing

The social sensitivity of Hellenic Air Force is known especially with children. So students of 5th and 6th grade of primary school from the city of Agrinio had the opportunity to visit 117 Combat Wing and live the dream of being near to the Hellenic Air Force pilots and personnel. This visit among others had a symbolic character since Agrinio was the birth city of Major Kostas Karathanos (killed during service in 2004) and Lieutenant Kostas Alexandrakis (killed during service in 2000).
The children and their teachers were accompanied by relatives of the late pilots. The gate of 117 Combat Wing openned and welcomed the students early in the morning. A few moments later the commander of 117 CW Colonel Vasilis Vretos talked to the children about Hellenic Air Force and its mission in the unit’s auditorium. The most moving moment was when the students gave to Colonel Vasilis Vretos a painting that depictured an F-4 E Phantom II to put in his office.
Later students and their teachers were shown around the unit and for sure left 117 Combat Wing with the best of impressions.
